Introduction

CV247

Originally developed by Veterinary Surgeon John Carter, CV247 is a combination of substances with therapeutic effects for the improvement of the quality of life of dogs suffering from malignant tumours and associated conditions. It may be advantageous for the adjuvant treatment of animals treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It may prevent or delay the recurrance of tumours which have been either partially or completely removed surgically.

FORMAT OF THE PRODUCT

Capsules and tablets for simultaneous oral administration

COMPOSITION

1 capsule contains:

Manganese gluconate: 10 mg
Copper gluconate: 10 mg
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C): 200 mg
 
1 tablet contains:

Sodium salicylate: 175 mg

Please note that this product was previously available in liquid form and has now been superseded by the tablets and capsules.

Contra-indications: CV247

CV247 should not be used in animals who are:

Suffering from gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding

Hypersensitive to any component of the formulation

Pregnant or if lactating

Please note:

It cannot be given to cats

It should be used with caution in dogs currently taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) due to the increased risk of gastero-intestinal irritation

Mode of action

All 4 ingredients are known to have some antitumour effect acting as antioxidants, immune-stimulants and anti-prostaglandin roborants. Manganese and Copper are essential trace elements needed for the functionning of several enzymes promoting immunity and biochemical functions including the prevention of oxidation. These enzymes are malfuntionning in malignant disease and allow oxidative DNA damage. Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant eliminating reactive free radicals and stimulating the immune system, which is under undue strain in malignant disease. It also promotes DNA repair.

Sodium salicylate has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect mainly through the blocking of prostaglandin production resulting in an improvement in well-being. It is also an antioxidant through blocking the cyclooxigenase (COX) enzymes which cause undue oxidation and subsequent DNA damage and vigorous vascularisation of growing tumours. It may also assist in trying to restore the balance between the natural cell-death rate (apoptosis) and the excessive cell reproduction in malignant tumour growth.

While all 4 ingredients were selected for their well known antitumour effects, it became soon apparent in the trials that this combination together with diet changes, gave a rapid and noticeable improvement in the well-being of even the most severely affected cancer patients in up to 90 % of cases. Antitumour effects have also been observed (including cases of apparent full remission), but not yet in sufficient numbers for statistical justification of its registration as an antitumour therapy. It is, therefore, registered at present as an adjuvant, immunstimulant, roborant therapy for dogs affected with malignant tumours, with some possible antitumour effect, which will be further studied through feedback data during its clinical use as an adjuvant/roborant for cancer patients.

Recommended optional home-prepared diet

This is an outline of the diet originally devised by veterinary surgeon John Carter to compliment the treatment. The drastic reduction of salt, sugar, fat, colouring, flavouring agents and preservatives, supports the action of CV247. If possible use organic ingredients. However we have devised a modification of this diet based on our own experiences in helping cancer patients so our individual advice may differ frtom that outlined in the table.
